Shey Phoksundo National Park lies within Dolpo, the park was established in 1984 to preserve a large portion of the land in the area. The region maintains a strong cultural Buddhist tradition with most inhabitants speaking the Tibetan language. Many still follow the ancient religion of Bon an ancient animistic faith that pre dates Buddhism. They survive by growing buckwheat and barley as well as tending to large herds of goats, sheep, yak etc. The crystal clear Ringmo Lake with its turquoise blue water, makes a trip to this region an unforgettable experience.
