Kanchenjunga Trekking
 
For an all round trekking experience, a trek in the Kanchanjunga region is well worth considering. Kanchanjunga, the third highest mountain in the world at 8598 mtrs, translated means crystal clear . The majority of trekking in this region centres around the Arun river whose origins date back to the prehistoric period. The culture of the local people living here are as diverse and colorful as nature itself. Sherpa, Lama, Limbu, Rai and Gurung communities are predominant in this area.

Kanchanjunga provides a habitat to numerous wild animals,birds, and exotic plants. The region contains three peaks above 8000mtrs and eleven peaks above 7000mtrs. It is a region of glaciers which adds to the overall experience. Sherpas inhabit the northern part of the Kanchanjunga region, Rai, Limbu, Magar, Tamang, Brahman and Chhetri dominate the south.

 Itinerary  of Kanchenjunga trekking:

Day 01: Kathmandu arrival / transfer hotel / overnight.
Day 02: Kathmandu to Hille (1990m). Fly (45 minutes) to Biratnagar / drive (5 hours) to Hile. Hile is a charming town with a main street of busy shops. The town is mixed Chhetri, Magar, Tamang, Limbu, Rai, heritage / overnight
Day 03: Hile / Shiduwa Shiduwa (2,237m) via Jorbhatti village / clear weather provides good views of distant snow- capped peaks / camp overnight.
Day 04: Shidua / Door Pani The day provides splendid panoramic views of Mt Makalu (8,356m) / Mt Chamlang (7,207m) / camp overnight.
Day 05: Door Pani / Gupha Pokhara (2,980m) Trek through rhododendron and bamboo forest, past small ponds and scattered farmhouses to the village of Gupta Pokhari. We camp near a small stone house adorned with Tibetan prayer flags, Rai and Limbu culture is very much in evidence / camp overnight.
Day 06: Gupha Pokhari / Nesum We cross the pass at 2,980m / trek down to Nesum (1,991m) via Gurja Gaun / camp overnight.
Day 07: Nesum / Taplejung (1,772m) / camp overnight
Day 08: Taplejung / Chiruwa (1,171m) / camp overnight
Day 09: Chiruwa / Sakathum (1,626m) the Yalung Glacier on the south side of Kanchanjungha can be seen on this day / camp overnight.
Day 10: Sakathum / Ajilassa (2,400m) / camp overnight
Day 11: Amjilassa / Kyapra 2,730m (rest day). Good views of the valley along with several open yak grazing pastures with clear side streams which provide a good water supply / camp overnight .
Day 12: Kyapra village / Ghunsa village (3,480m) / overnight.
Day 13: Ghunsa village / Khambachen View of Mt Jannu (the mystery peak 7,594m) / trek Khambachen (4,069m) / camp overnight.
Day 14: Rest day / side treks / overnight
Day 15: Khambachen / Lhonk Trek through lateral moraine with the Kanchanjungha glacier clearly in view / follow moraine to the junction of Lhonak Glacier and the valley / After crossing the junction reach Lhonak (7,409m) / camp overnight.
Day 16: Side treks around Lhonak (4700m) Day trip to Pangpema to observe the glaciers plus good mountain views / camp overnight.
Day 17: Lhonak / Ghunsa Village (4700m) Trek back on same route / camp overnight.
Day 18: Ghunsa / Ramche or Tserang Trek over the Miring La pass (4,805m). to reach Tserang / camp overnight.
Day 19: Tserang: Rest day / camp overnight.
Day 20: Tserang / Ramite Bhanjyang (3,201m) Trek to Torotan (2,943m) through rhododendron forest to Ramite Bhanjyang / camp overnight.
Day 21: Ramite Bhanjyang / Yamphudin Trek steeply down to Omja Khola / on to Dub Bhanjyang pass (2,357m) / trek down to Yamphudin / camp overnight.
Day 22: Yamphudin / Ponphe (1,652m) Trek to Kabell Khola / trek up to Manaka, a Limbu village / trek Ponphe / camp overnight .
Day 23: Ponphe / Khunjari (1577m) / camp overnight.
Day 24: Khujari / Taplejung (2237m) / camp overnight.
Day 25: Fly Kathmandu or Biratnagar / drive to Kathmandu (dependent on Kathmandu flight availability) / transfer hotel.
Day 26: Tour ends.
